Roberto A. Jackson was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and is a member of the Gila River Indian Community. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University in 2008, Roberto was hired by the Gila River Indian News, where he is currently the Managing Editor.
Roberto is the writer/director of a short-film called “Indios Primeros,” (2009) and an independent feature-length film called “In Circles,” (2015). Both films deal with life on reservations in America. In addition to film and photography, Roberto is also a harmonica player and has twice competed in the International Blues Challenge in the historic Beale Street District in Memphis, Tennessee.
Roberto is married and raising a daughter in Arizona. He enrolled at the Academy of Art University from 2010-2011 in the Master of Fine Art photography program. He returned to the program in 2018 to complete his education. His work reflects his interests in storytelling and using photographs to create visual narratives.
